X Tracker

Time tracking for hourly contracts that both sides can trust.

What I covered

Brand identity, product design, the desktop app, the web diary, the API and security.

Mock-up with invented data: the X Tracker tray timer.

The problem

Hourly contracts need proof of work that both sides trust, without sliding into surveillance. Tracking had to be precise, agreed to up front and private by default.

Brand board: the X on yellow, one action colour and two data colours.

What I built

  • A brand identity: the 3D X logo, a palette with yellow for actions and teal and orange for tracked and manual time, and Inter type with heavy headings.
  • An Electron app for macOS (universal) and Windows that logs 10-minute UTC blocks, captures each monitor once per block and queues uploads while offline.
  • Contracts both sides negotiate in the app; tracking unlocks only after both approve.
  • A web diary of tracked vs manual time, with team roles and a super-admin that hosts the installers.
  • Every request checked for access; screenshots stay private and are shown only to the people on the contract.
  • Strong account security: two-factor sign-in with recovery codes, lockouts, an audit log and secure desktop sign-in.
